Dr. David Covin Memorial Scholarship Fund

The David Covin Scholarship and Fund was established in 2023. The mission of the scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to Black students who are graduates of a Sacramento area high school by the end of the spring term of 2025. Dr. Covin was a founding member of the Black Parallel School Board. Honoring Dr. David Covin as a scholar and community activist: Dr. David Covin, a professor emeritus of government and ethnic studies at Sacramento State, is remembered for his significant contributions to the university and the wider community. Dr. Covin was a visionary leader who played a key role in establishing several organizations in Sacramento, including the Sacramento Area Black Caucus, Sacramento Black Book Fair, Blue Nile Press, Congress of African Peoples' convenings, the Black Parallel School Board, and The Black Group, which was Sacramento's first and only Black think tank. His leadership and vision had a profound impact on the community, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations
