In June 2016, the Central Valley Movement Building Coordinating Team was formed. The Central Valley Movement Building Coordinating Team consisting of Black Parallel School Board, Tower of Youth, Fathers and Families of San Joaquin, Legal Services for Children and the Dolores Huerta Foundation has been working to support and expand the positive school environment work in the Central Valley.
The current reality of the Central Valley is the wide spread poverty, lack of educational equity and the school to prison pipeline. The vision of Central Valley Movement Building is to dismantle the school to prison pipeline, remove cops on school campuses, with an active engagement of students as decision makers and the primary focus of educational outcomes.
Using a Central Valley Movement Building regional connector, coordinating team and partners the CVMB engages in the following: communities listening sessions, April and November All-partners convening, monthly webinars and community support using the Ella Baker and Paulo Freire approaches.
The CVMB has hired a regional connector to help organize and facilitate listening sessions with parents, community groups, and students throughout the Central Valley, as well as hold partners convening, monthly webinars and provide support to communities.
